Privacy Policy for SalahNest
Effective date: 22 October 2026
Publisher: SalahNest, an independent developer based in Australia
Contact: salahnest.support@gmail.com
SalahNest helps you with prayer times, the Qibla direction, reading and listening to the Quran, the six Kalimas, the 99 Names, counting dhikr (Tasbih) and calculating Zakat. It has no accounts, shows no advertising and does not track you.
What stays on your phone
These are stored only on your device and are never sent to us or to anyone else:
- your saved location (coordinates and city name), its time zone and your prayer settings;
- the adhan sound you chose (the app keeps only a reference to a sound or audio file on your phone, and can read that one file and nothing else);
- your bookmarks, notes and reading progress in the Quran;
- your Zakat history: the Zakat calculations you saved, and whether you marked each one as paid;
- what you mark as done: prayers ticked as prayed, saved duas (from the Home card and the Ramadan duas), your Kalima progress (Kalimas you have memorised and how often you recited them), your Ramadan tracker (fasts and daily goals), ayahs marked as read, and your tasbih counts (where each counter stands, your own dhikr, and your daily totals);
- translations and tafsir you have downloaded;
- your language and other settings.
Uninstalling the app deletes all of it from your phone.
Android backup. If you have Android's backup switched on, Android includes your settings, reading position, bookmarks, notes, Zakat history, saved location, what you marked as done and your tasbih counts in its own backup (to your Google account, or directly to a new phone when you move), so they come back when you reinstall the app. That backup is made and kept by Android under your account; we cannot see it. The Quran text and downloaded translations and tafsir are not part of it. You can switch it off in your phone's settings (System → Backup).
What leaves your phone, and why
Location: nothing leaves your phone. If you allow it, the app reads your approximate location (accurate to about three kilometres; the app never asks for your precise location) to calculate prayer times and the Qibla direction. Prayer times, the Qibla direction, your time zone and the name of the place are all worked out on your phone, from data included in the app. Your location is not sent to us, to Google or to anyone else. You can skip this entirely by choosing your city by hand.
City search: nothing leaves your phone. When you search for a city, the app looks it up in a list of cities included in the app. What you type is not sent anywhere, and the search works without an internet connection.
Crash reports: the app sends none. The app contains no crash-reporting or analytics service. Separately from the app, Android itself can send reports about crashes and freezes to Google, if you have allowed your phone to share usage and diagnostics data. Google then shows us those reports in the Google Play Console, as technical details of the fault (which part of the app failed, your phone model and Android version), so that we can fix it. They do not tell us who you are, where you are, or anything you read or wrote in the app. This is a setting of your phone, not of the app, and you can switch it off there.
Downloading content. When you download a translation or tafsir, listen to a recitation, or load gold and silver prices, the app requests files from the services below. As with any website, the service sees your internet (IP) address. The app sends no information about you with these requests.
| Service | What it provides |
|---|---|
Al Quran Cloud (api.alquran.cloud) | Quran translations |
jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net) | Tafsir texts |
Islamic Network (cdn.islamic.network) | Quran recitation audio |
SalahNest price service (salahnest-prices.salahnest.workers.dev), run by the publisher | Gold and silver prices and currency rates, which it gets from gold-api.com and ExchangeRate-API |
What the app does not do
- No advertising, and no use of the advertising ID.
- No analytics or tracking of what you do in the app.
- No accounts, and no collection of your name, e-mail address, contacts, photos or files.
- No precise location, and no location in the background: your approximate location is read only while you are using the app, and it never leaves your phone.
- No access to your files: if you pick an audio file as the adhan sound, the app can read that one file only.
- No selling or sharing of data with advertisers or data brokers.
Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Approximate location | Prayer times and Qibla direction for where you are. Optional: you can choose a city instead. The app does not ask for precise location |
| Notifications | The adhan notification at prayer time. Optional |
| Alarms and reminders (exact alarms) | To play the adhan exactly at prayer time. Optional: without it the adhan may be a few minutes late |
| Run at start-up | To set the adhan alarms again after the phone restarts |
| Internet | The downloads described above |
| Network state | To tell you when a download cannot start because there is no connection |
Google services
The app uses no Google service: no Firebase, no Google Maps and no Google location service. Crash reports that Android itself sends to Google (described above) are covered by Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Your choices
- Refuse or withdraw the location permission in your phone's settings and choose a city by hand.
- Switch the adhan and its notification off in the app or in your phone's settings.
- Uninstall the app to delete everything it stored on your phone.
- For any question about this policy, write to salahnest.support@gmail.com.
