Questions

The adhan did not play at prayer time

Check these in order:

  1. In the app, open Prayer Times and make sure the bell next to that prayer is on, and that Settings → All Notifications and Prayer Settings → Prayer Notifications are on.
  2. Exact alarms. On Android 12 and later the app needs the "Alarms & reminders" permission to play the adhan exactly on time. The app asks for it when you turn on the bell; you can also open your phone's Settings → Apps → SalahNest → Alarms & reminders and switch it on. Without it, Android may delay the adhan by a few minutes.
  3. Notifications. In your phone's settings, allow notifications for SalahNest.
  4. Battery saving. Some phones stop apps in the background to save battery. In your phone's battery settings, set SalahNest to "Unrestricted" or "Don't optimise".
  5. After a phone restart, or a change of time zone, the app sets the alarms again by itself.
The prayer times or the Qibla are for the wrong place

The app uses your approximate location (about three kilometres), only while you use it, and it never leaves your phone. If location is off or not allowed, it uses the city you chose. To set the place yourself: Settings → Change Location → Pick Location Manually, then search for your city. The search works offline. If the times are a few minutes off, try another calculation method under Prayer Settings; your local mosque may follow a particular one.

The Hijri date is one day off

The app follows the Umm al-Qura calendar. Where you live, a month may begin a day earlier or later, depending on the moon sighting. Open Settings → Hijri date adjustment and move the date by up to two days either way. The change applies to every Hijri date in the app.

Zakat: "Couldn't load gold & silver prices"

Gold and silver prices and currency rates are fetched from the internet when you open the calculator. Without a connection the app cannot show them. Connect and tap the refresh button next to the Nisab, or type the Nisab value yourself: the rest of the calculation works offline.

Does the app work without the internet?

Yes, for prayer times, the adhan, the Qibla compass, the Quran text with the included translation, the Kalimas, the 99 Names and the Zakat sums. The internet is needed to listen to recitations, to download more translations or tafsirs, and to fetch gold, silver and currency prices.
